Side ( pronounced ‘see-day’) is an ancient fishing village that was once the secret rendezvous of Anthony and Cleopatra. It lies between two gorgeous beaches of golden sand- Kumkoy to the west and Titreyengol to the east. the coast itself aptly named the Turquoise Coast or the Turkish Riviera stretches beyond Antalya up to Istanbul.
The old town is one of the most unique and charming resorts on Turkey’s southern coast, retaining many of its architectural features and archaeological sites. As you walk from the top of the high street to the harbour, you can glance down the tiny side streets and se the see on either side of you.
The bustling, colourful street leading down to the sea offer bargains galore. There are shops selling turkish delight, hand crafted embroidery, lace table cloths, carpets, leather goods, and a wonderful selection of gold and silver jewellery. The Saturday market is definitely worth a visit for clothes, lace, fresh fruit and vegetables.
Travelling into the old town you’ll see the remains of an ancient time, the fine Roman Aqueduct which used to carry water over 32 kilometres from the mountains, the Agora (market-place) and the Roman baths and Museum during the past two summers the town’s magnificent amphitheatre has played host to cultural, folk and opera shows. Built in the 2nd century, the awe-inspiring theatre seats around 17,000 people. from the top you can look over the town, Hellenistic defence walls, the beaches and sea.
There is no shortage of places to go after sunset and many bars are open late. Near the Temple of Apollo, the atmosphere of dance music and fire-eaters at Stones bar make it popular with the British, while Apollonik of the other side the Temple is traditionally Turkish. In there you can join the locals smoking a nargile, a Turkish water pipe filled with mild, aromatic tobacco. The resorts two night clubs are Lighthouse, near the harbour and Oxyd on the edge of town; a Large open air venue with Laser show and swimming pool.
There’s an overwhelming choice of restaurants. you can find traditional Turkish dishes and well as more familiar dishes such as steaks and pizzas.

|
Altin Kolye, ( Golden Collar) is situated on the edge of side peninsular. The actual peninsular is under 1 km long, so the apartment is close to all local amenities. The main beach is 800 meters away and can be seen from one of the two balconies. Side town centre is a three minute taxi ride away or you can get there by dolmus ( the local mini bus) for around 40 pence.
